Data Products is a curation layer built on top of the Decube catalog.

* Data producers package assets such as tables, views, dashboards and more into named, documented data products.
* Data consumers browse a self-serve marketplace to find, evaluate, and bookmark those products.

Because Data Products is built natively on Decube's existing catalog and data quality infrastructure, every product surfaces the trust signals such as ownership and documentation that consumers need to make confident decisions.

## The problem it solves

Most data teams carry a hidden productivity tax: consumers cannot tell which data to trust, so they spend hours chasing data engineers to ask whether a table is safe to use. Producers have no formal way to take ownership of what they publish, so data degrades silently and accountability gaps widen.

For organisations building AI products, this compounds further: models trained on untrusted data inherit and multiply those errors at scale.

Data Products extends Decube's asset-level trust layer upward, giving your organisation a governed, self-serve data marketplace.

## Key capabilities

### For data producers

Data producers are the people who **build and own data**. They are responsible for making data available, well-documented, and trustworthy for others in the organisation to use.

**You are likely a data producer if your role is such as but not limited to:**

* Data Engineer
* Data Architect
* BI Developer

A step-by-step creation wizard lets you package any catalog asset into a named, documented data product with an assigned owner. Once published, you can manage assets, update descriptions, and track who is consuming your product.

### For data consumers

Data consumers are the people who **use data to make decisions or build things**. They rely on data products being trustworthy and easy to find, without needing to understand the underlying infrastructure.

**You are likely a data consumer if your role is such as but not limited to:**

* Data or BI Analyst
* Business Analyst
* Product Manager
* Marketing Analyst or Growth Analyst
* Data Scientist or ML Engineer

A marketplace storefront with search, filters, and sort controls. Each product card surfaces the description, number of assets, star rating from peer users, and number of consumers. Clicking through opens a full detail page with documentation, a questions feed, and peer ratings.

### For data governance

**You are likely in data governance if your role is such as but not limited to:**

* Data Governance Manager or Lead
* Data Steward
* Chief Data Officer (CDO)
* Data Compliance Officer

Module-based access control lets administrators define exactly who can create, edit, or delete data products across the organisation. Ownership is always tracked. All published products are visible to the full organisation by default.

## What's coming next

The roadmap ahead includes:

* **Phase 2 (H2 2026):**
  * Data contracts and SLAs
  * Domains (opt-in)
  * Lineage
  * Data product metrics
  * Audit trail
  * Data product quality scores
* **Phase 3 (2027):**
  * A personalised marketplace
  * Trusty-powered natural language search
  * YAML data contracts
  * AI-powered recommendations
  * Asset curation via SQL.
