Slack

Authorize Slack and post Data Quality alerts into a channel from an alert rule.

Slack takes two steps: authorize your workspace once for the whole organization, then name a channel on each rule that should post there.

Authorize your Slack workspace

This action is only performed once per organization.

  1. Go to Integrations > Third-party.

  2. Click on Authorize Slack.

  3. You will be redirected to Slack to authorize the connection. Click on Allow.

  4. Once successful, a Connected badge will be shown next to the Slack name.

Add Slack to a rule

  1. In Set up alert channels, select Slack on a channel row.

  2. Enter the channel name without the leading #, for example data-alerts.

  3. Click Test alert, then check the channel for the sample message.

How the Slack bot works

Decube's bot posts the alerts to the channel, so it has to be a member of the channel. It is added automatically when you save the rule. If the test alert does not arrive and the bot is missing from the member list, add it by hand:

  1. Open the channel, click the three dots at the top right of the message box, and choose Open channel details.

  2. Go to Integrations > Add an app.

  3. Find Decube and add it.

  4. Run Test alert again.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. Can I post to several channels from one rule?

Yes. Add a channel row per destination. Each row delivers independently, so one failing channel leaves the others unaffected.

  1. What happens if someone renames or archives the channel?

Delivery to that channel starts failing, and the case records the failure. Update the rule with the new channel name, or disable the rule while the channel is being reorganised.

  1. Do I need to authorize Slack again for each rule?

No. Authorization is per organization. Rules only name the channel.
